— A robber shot a female clerk at a check-cashing business in the 4000 block of Wake Forest Road Wednesday night, police said.

Officers responded to calls about an armed robbery in progress at Mexico Lindo around 8:30 p.m.

Witnesses told police that a man dressed in green camouflage entered the business. A mask covered the lower half of his face, and he carried a handgun.

He shot a clerk, Modesta Fernandez-Lucas, 25, multiple times and then jumped over the counter, police said. He fled from the scene on foot.

Fernandez-Lucas was taken to WakeMed, where she was listed in fair condition Thursday morning. Officials said her injuries were non-life-threatening.

Police said they were reviewing surveillance video from the store.

Anyone with information that might assist the investigation is asked to call the Raleigh Police Department at 919-890-3555 or Crime Stoppers at 919-226-CRIME.

Real brave man there. Worthy of all the consideration we can give him with his Constitutional Rights.
