DURHAM, N.C. — A 27-year-old woman was hospitalized with serious injuries after being shot multiple times late Sunday in front of her two young children, Durham police said.

The shooting happened inside a room at the Comfort Inn on Apex Highway. Police did not release the woman's name but said she was shot three times by her boyfriend, 33-year-old Mike Dwayne Brown.

Brown went to his girlfriend's house, called police and turned himself in about 2 a.m. Monday. Investigators said charges were pending.

The woman's children, ages 4 and 7, were not hurt. They are staying with family.
