— Police said Tuesday that they are investigating a sexual assault that occurred early Sunday in an alley between Ninth Street and Iredell Street in Durham.

A woman was walking in the alley around 12:30 a.m. when a man armed with a knife pushed her to the ground and assaulted her, police said. The woman was treated for minor injuries at a nearby hospital.

The woman was able to provide only a vague description of her attacker.

Anyone with information is asked to call Durham police at 919-560-4440, extension 29349, or Crime Stoppers at 919-683-1200.

She could have been just taking out the trash. Although I wouldn't even do that in the 9th area late at night with carrying a you know what concealed but at the ready.

You "should" be able to but no one in their right minds would think it was safe. You shouldn't walk in an alley in the dark alone anywhere, much less Durham. People have some responsibiity for their own safety as well. Don't do something that you know there is a good change you may not make it out alive.

my post didn't get past the moderator! All I said was that you shouldn't walk in an alley alone in the dark in Durham. And that her "vague description" was probably a black male, 25'ish, close cropped hair, wearing jeans, sneakers and maybe a hoodie. What's wrong with my post?

Same person who walks in an alley in Raleigh or Cary. Not smart, regardless of the city.

folks going from point a to point b. While maybe not the best decision folks should be able to walk at 1230 am without getting assaulted.
