Woman seriously hurt in Raleigh crash involving alcohol, faulty brakes

— Police are investigating a wreck that injured three people late Saturday.

The incident occurred at the intersection of Fayetteville Road and Woodcrest Drive around 9:30 p.m.

A driver of a Volkswagen Beetle ran into another vehicle, according to police. Troopers said the car's brakes failed and that alcohol was also a factor.

The driver of the Beetle, a 59-year-old woman, was charged with DWI and failure to reduce speed. She remains in the hospital with serious injuries.

Two people, a driver and a passenger from the other car involved, were also transported to the hospital. Officials said they will be okay.

You can't say your brakes failed if you don't use them.
