Lumberton, N.C. — Robeson County sheriff's deputies found a woman's body in the charred rubble of a Lumberton home early Tuesday, Lt. Rory McKeithan said.
Deputies took the body to the Office of the Chief State Medical Examiner in Chapel Hill.
Karen Rawls Williams lived alone at 199 Maverick Road, McKeithan said, and she has not been located.
McKeithan did not identify the body as that of Williams. He said he expected an answer from the medical examiner on Wednesday.
The cause of the fire has not yet been determined, but McKeithan said it did not appear to be suspicious.
