Woman pleads guilty in kidnapping plot involving Wake ADA's dad

Chason Renee Chase, 24, pleaded guilty Thursday in U.S. District Court in Columbia, S.C. The woman, who authorities say goes by the alias "Lady Jamaica," was questioned by FBI agents four days following the April 5 kidnapping of Frank Janssen, of Wake Forest.

Federal prosecutors say Janssen's kidnapping was directed by Kenneth Melton, a high-ranking Bloods street gang member who was sent to prison for life by Janssen's daughter.

Authorities say Chase, also a Bloods member, lied about knowing and communicating with Melton on a cellphone hidden in his jail cell.

Phone records showed the two had been in contact more than 50 times since February, and authorities say that, while the FBI was interviewing Chase, Melton had frantically been trying to contact her.

Agents rescued Janssen later that night from an Atlanta apartment.

Chase, who faces a maximum sentence of five years in prison and a $250,000 fine, will be sentenced at a later date.

Nine others, including Melton, still face charges in the case in North Carolina.
