Woman pleads guilty in bar fight death

— Cynthia Denise Ewing of West End pleaded guilty Wednesday to voluntary manslaughter for the death of a Southern Pines woman.

Police charged Ewing, 42, in March with first-degree murder in the stabbing of Dionne Michelle Jones, 34, after an altercation at Mr. D's Take Away in Southern Pines.

Superior Court Judge James M. Webb accepted Ewing's plea and sentenced her to a minimum of 82 months in prison. She was ordered to pay restitution of $16,081.

    With good behavior, she could be out in 4 years. I don't know the details of the incident but, that seems like a short time.

    By my calculation, 82 months is less than 7 years, so she won't be 50 when she gets out. The death sentence was served by her victim.
