— Hoke County authorities arrested and charged a man with murder after he allegedly killed a woman at his home early Tuesday morning.

Sheriff Hubert Peterkin said Timothy Tyler twice shot Alisa Hammonds, 50, during an argument at his home, at 659 Gainey Road, around 4:30 a.m.

Tyler was being held without bond Tuesday afternoon at the Hoke County Detention Center.

Peterkin said Hammonds had been visiting and that she and Tyler were arguing over money that was reportedly stolen from him.

"The suspect pulled a .22 rifle, from what I understand, and fired several shots. The investigation shows that there were shots missed. They found them in the ceiling. They found them in the wall," Peterkin said. "It appears that she took a head shot, which led to her death."

Tyler's friends and relatives said he awoke to find Hammonds in his home going through his wallet and thought that he was being robbed, but Peterkin said the two knew one another – although he did not say how – and that she had been at Tyler's home before he went to sleep.

"He knows her. That's not the first time she's been there," Peterkin said. "The way these people are telling you, it sounds like a robbery – absolutely not."

What was she doing IN HIS home while he was sleeping...drugs and money involved??? She may have gotten what she deserved going into his home while he was asleep...if that part is true.

It's not WRAL's fault we have an epidemic of gun violence in this country. Would you rather they tried to sweep the issue under the rug like so many gun owners want to do?

Lets talk about it, but the problem you anti-gunners have is your ideas of totally banning guns and rewriting the Constitution to fit your emotions just isnt going to happen. I notice you havent commented on the homeless man being stabbed, because stories like that dont give you a soapbox to trample my rights You will even stand on the graves of dead children to push your agenda.

I'm sorry, what does a homeless man being stabbed have to do with the epidemic of gun violence in this country?

Because you blame only guns, if they were gone would the violence stop? Not any more than banning forks so people would stop being over weight. It's a dumb argument.

There would be far, far fewer deaths. Do you argue otherwise?

It means that you don't jump onto your soapbox, when the murder weapon is not a gun. Whether it be knives, cars, rocks or whatever else one person can kill another person with, unless it is a gun, you disappear.
