Raeford man accused of fatally shooting woman in head

Posted July 8, 2014

— Hoke County authorities arrested and charged a man with murder after he allegedly killed a woman at his home early Tuesday morning.

Sheriff Hubert Peterkin said Timothy Tyler twice shot Alisa Hammonds, 50, during an argument at his home, at 659 Gainey Road, around 4:30 a.m.

Tyler was being held without bond Tuesday afternoon at the Hoke County Detention Center.

Peterkin said Hammonds had been visiting and that she and Tyler were arguing over money that was reportedly stolen from him.

"The suspect pulled a .22 rifle, from what I understand, and fired several shots. The investigation shows that there were shots missed. They found them in the ceiling. They found them in the wall," Peterkin said. "It appears that she took a head shot, which led to her death."

Tyler's friends and relatives said he awoke to find Hammonds in his home going through his wallet and thought that he was being robbed, but Peterkin said the two knew one another – although he did not say how – and that she had been at Tyler's home before he went to sleep.

"He knows her. That's not the first time she's been there," Peterkin said. "The way these people are telling you, it sounds like a robbery – absolutely not."

Hard to tell what really went on. The fact that he basically sprayed the area with bullets is odd. I pray the truth can be discovered. Prayers too for the loved ones of the woman.

    around 4:30 a.m.

Gee, the both of them should have been in the bed asleep instead of arguing. Now he is facing life in prison. My condolences to her family and friends.

"Focusing only on one tool rather than the violence will not solve the problem."

Incredibly insightful! Nice to see people asking the right questions. Besides, if we make guns illegal, it will be just one more unenforced law like immigration or drug laws. It wont do anything productive at all to solve the problem.

Very true, but if someone is in the act of stealing something even in ones home one does not have the right to harm them unless they have reason to believe the person stealing is about to cause harm to someone or themselves.

Just as soon as they limit knives, boats, swimming pools, cars, planes, rocks, bats, etc.

Gun control is not about guns, its about CONTROL.

Just because he knew her doesn't necessarily mean she wasn't robbing him. JMO

Banning guns want stop people from killing people. Just makes it easier. This has nothing to do with guns it's just another murder. There will be another we just don't who, where and when yet.

With a nation full of hot heads, impatient people, over stressed people, and a good share of not so smart people....it's nuts to think MORE guns is the answer. When are the politicians going to have the guts to act in the best interest of society, and start to seriously limit guns?
