— A woman died Saturday morning when the car she was riding in wrecked on N.C. Highway 70 East near Hillsborough, state Highway Patrol officers said.

Jessie Sturms, 20, was pronounced dead at the scene after the car swerved off the road and hit a tree near Palmers Grove Church Road, authorities said. The wreck happened around 7 a.m. Saturday.

The driver of the Nissan Altima, 23-year-old Morgan Freeman, was airlifted to UNC Hospitals. She was in critical condition in the intensive care unit late Sunday.

Authorities said speed and alcohol were a factor in the wreck. No charges have been filed at this time.

It says charges have not been filed at this time not that no additional charges will be filed. The District Attorney decides on the charges relating to the fatality so they would have to wait for his decision which could take weeks. Especially when they don't even know at this point if she will survive. No point in charging her before they know she is going to for sure make it.

There should be charges filed if someone dies as a result of your DRINKING AND DRIVING, that is if she even survives. When will people learn to DRINK AT HOME, if you must, or call a cab, sleep it off in your car, or whatever you have to do. This is just another senseless loss of life and possibly even 2 lives. What a shame. My sympathies for the family of Miss Sturms.
