— A Fayetteville woman died Saturday morning in a one-car wreck, police said Monday.

Mary Elizabeth Lane, 19, of Stoney Point Road, was driving southeast on Stoney Point Road near Sykes Pond Road at about 11:30 a.m. Saturday when she lost control of her 1993 Chevrolet Camaro, police said.

The car went off the right side of the road and hit a tree, police said. Lane, who was alone in the car, was taken to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center, where she died.

The crash wasn't storm-related, police said, adding that officers are still investigating it.

It sucks that these stories keep popping up about our children dying in car crashes. It doesn't matter if drugs, alcohol, sleep or speed were factors. There are just too many of our young folks dying.
