Fayetteville, N.C. — A woman died Friday in a house fire in Fayetteville, authorities said.
Anita Bullard, 71, lived alone at 1016 Southern Ave. No other injuries were reported.
Firefighters said the fire was confined to a bedroom, where Bullard was found.
"We were praying and hoping that she had walked up to the store or rode in her little chair up to the store to get cigarettes, but it wasn't to be, I guess," said her niece, Shirley Sorenson.
Fire investigators are still trying to determine the cause of the fire, but they said it didn't appear suspicious.
