Woman killed, child injured in Warrenton wreck

Posted September 29, 2010

— A woman was killed and a 4-year-old girl was severely injured in a single-vehicle wreck in Warrenton Tuesday night, state troopers said.

Troopers said that a 2005 Honda sedan driven by Lucy Henderson, 38, of Warrenton, ran off the right side of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard twice before hitting a ditch and then a mailbox. The Honda overturned and struck a tree before coming to a rest.

Henderson died at the scene of the wreck.

Her passenger, 4-year-old Trinity Owens, was flown to UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill, troopers said. She was in fair condition Wednesday.

Troopers said that neither Henderson nor Trinity was wearing a seat belt. The two lived at the same address.

Seat belts save people... As do cops that get drunk drivers off the road. Not related, but just figured I'd throw that in there. I will keep this family in my prayers.

    Praying for the family!

The two lived at the same address, but apparently were not mother and daughter? Nevertheless, no excuse for not having that little girl safely buckled in. I hope she has a full recovery.

hold on..a life was just taken and a child injuried...show some respect for the family...granted seatbelts should have been worn but unfortunately they weren't...praying for the family

froggytroat - Most people don't mind the government being involved in certain aspects of their lives (maintaining streets, safety of the citizens, etc.)... it's when government grows too big and infiltrates almost every aspect that is the problem.

And I agree with most comments here. There is NO EXCUSE (NONE, ZERO) to not have had that child buckled!!!!! It's not only the law but more importantly, common sense.

..."neither Henderson nor Trinity was wearing a seat belt....."

    ...absolutely NO EXCUSE for this..NONE...ZERO!!!!!

Prayers to the family and a full recovery for Trinity.

On the other note, how come every time I don't buckle up a nice police officer pulls me over to remind me to do that?

Never a good idea to travel without seat belts or proper restraint for child..SEEE!

Prayers for this 4 year old child and the family. Hope the child makes a full recovery.

What a poor decision on this woman's behalf. The child should have been in a proper restraint and buckled in. Prayers are with this little girl and the families involved.
