Woman injures hand in Raleigh bank deposit slot

Posted December 26, 2013

— A woman was being treated for serious injuries Thursday night after getting her hand stuck in a night deposit box at a downtown Raleigh bank, police said.

The unidentified woman was making a deposit at the Bank of America branch at 411 Fayetteville St. shortly before 5:30 p.m. when the machine closed on her hand. Investigators called it a freak accident.

She was taken to WakeMed for treatment of injuries to her hand. There was no word on her condition.

@Twitty The lever on the drop is put there with the assumption that 'we' would use two hands. One to open the slot and the other to drop the deposit. However, my observation of the manner in which we conduct ourselves is that when we have something important to do with one hand; we attempt to do everything else with the other. And, of course, there is nothing that is more important than our phone conversation.

The deposit goes in the slot, not your hand.

Did she stick her entire arm in there trying to steal someone else's deposit? There's more to this story than is being reported.

    And why is this news...?

  • Twittyfan Dec 27, 2013

This is just weird.. Most night drops have a lever you pull towards you make the deposit then close and reopen to see if it is empty. Never heard of anyone getting their hand caught unless they are trying to get things out and once it is gone its gone until you go into the bank to get it the next day.

Just like in the McDonald's hot coffee case, we will now have weird warnings posted on all bank deposit slots. As if none of us have any common sense.

Something doesn't add up here and it's not the deposit.

some of those night deposit boxes do look like they could hurt. Not sure how she got her hand stuck tho.....news would be telling that so others wouldn't do it. :)
