Woman injured in attempted sexual assault

Posted September 24, 2010

— Rocky Mount police said they are trying to identify a man who cut a woman with a razor blade and tried to sexually assault her early Friday.

The woman told police that she was walking from a friend's house around 12:30 a.m. when a man attacked her at Pearl Street and Raleigh Road. Police said that the man tried to sexually assault her and cut her hand with a razor blade when she resisted. When the victim screamed, the attacker ran away.

The woman was treated at Nash General Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

Police described the attacker as a white man, approximately 35 years old, 6 feet tall, weighing 180 pounds, with a medium build. He had short, straight brown hair. He wore a white T-shirt and blue jeans.

Anyone who observed or has information about the crime was asked to contact Crime Stoppers by calling 252-977-1111 or send an e-mail crimestoppers@rockymountnc.gov. Crime Stoppers pays cash rewards for information leading to arrests in felony cases, and callers never have to identify themselves.

esprg, you are kidding! Where did you grow up in NYC? I lived there for years and can only remember one or two times feeling uncomfortable. And I was in my 20s so many times it was LATE at night.

I won't even drive down Raleigh Rd in Rocky Mount in the daytime, let alone walk down it at night.
