Woman injured in attempted sexual assault

Rocky Mount police are trying to identify a man who cut a woman with a razor blade and tried to sexually assault her early Friday.

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. — Rocky Mount police said they are trying to identify a man who cut a woman with a razor blade and tried to sexually assault her early Friday.

The woman told police that she was walking from a friend's house around 12:30 a.m. when a man attacked her at Pearl Street and Raleigh Road. Police said that the man tried to sexually assault her and cut her hand with a razor blade when she resisted. When the victim screamed, the attacker ran away.

The woman was treated at Nash General Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

Police described the attacker as a white man, approximately 35 years old, 6 feet tall, weighing 180 pounds, with a medium build. He had short, straight brown hair. He wore a white T-shirt and blue jeans.
