Woman found under Durham bridge likely drowned

Posted June 11, 2014

— A woman found dead beneath a bridge in Durham last year likely drowned, according to an autopsy report released Wednesday.

Police found Tina Renee Maynard, 38, on April 4, 2013, partially submerged in a creek by an abutment in the 400 block of Latta Road.

The autopsy by the North Carolina's Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Raleigh found a high amount of ethanol in Maynard's system, and the report said that could have been a contributing factor to her death.

A Durham Police Department spokeswoman said no one was charged in the case.

I am so confused. Hadn't she been missing for several months? If so, how does one end up drowning in a creek in Jan/February? I remember how cold it was...and when it warmed up people were complaining about the odor. Her body was decomposing. I lived 2 miles from where she was found, and I never saw a missing persons report, or heard about a community search for her- a missing mom of several kids. I don't think the police have anything to do with this- but once this was turned over to UNC for the autopsy- something went sideways. I can't wrap my head around a death over a year old, and we are just now finding out she drowned, and the blame is being put on her with the suggestion she was intoxicated. It's just weird.

    Ashamed of Durham:
Sounds like to need to go to the police and let them know what you know about this.
    Wrong if you don't.

Do you know how she got there and who was with her? If you do you should let the authorities know what you know.

I am so sorry for the family (Whom I know) that have to deal with this release of information. Contributed? What about how she got there and who she was with, ect...? May the one who was with her when she died forever be ashamed!
