Woman found dead at Raleigh apartment

— Raleigh police were investigating the death of a woman found in an apartment at 4709 Old Plank Road Thursday morning, spokesman Jim Sughrue said.

Officers found Marla Jean Cook, 46, when they responded to a check-on-welfare call around 11 a.m. at the address.

The department’s Major Crime Task Force was handling the death as a homicide, Sughrue said. No other information was released.

Anyone with information that might assist the investigation is asked to call detectives at 919-996-3555 or Crime Stoppers at 919-226-CRIME.

    It's usually a call like "my mom lives at this address and she hasn't called in the past few days. We usually talk at least once a day and I can't get in touch with her, can you go check to see if she is okay?"
