Woman dies in Vance County wreck

Posted August 5, 2010

— A woman died when her car crossed the center line of Stewart Farm Road, east of Henderson, and struck another vehicle head-on Wednesday evening, state troopers said.

Troopers identified the deceased as Gladys Chastian Adcox, 40, of Henderson.

The driver of the second vehicle, Patrick O'Neal Williams, 34, of Henderson, was treated for non-life-threatening injuries at Maria Parham Medical Center.

Troopers said they did not expect to file charges.

If testing would have been done days before, this would not have stopped this incident from happening. If somebody wants to drive drunk or impaired its up to them, sadly...law enforcement can not catch every drunk before something like this happens...

I assumed they were referring to the fact that the other person was not charged with any offenses. Unfortunately, this woman had an extensive history of alcoholism and would not adhere to treatment. Many offers were made to help her, to no avail. In addition, she was just bonded out of jail this week on numerous charges related to her drinking and conduct. I am sad to say that had they conducted any testing to determine her blood alcohol level, it may provide the simple answer. I am thankful that the man who was hit survived as this would have been made truly tragic had he been another fatality of drunk driving. Thoughts to the families of both.

Rockermom if you head south on 39 out Andrews Avenue, turn left at the old standpipe and it runs from there across Careys Chapel road and over to the old Aycock school road.

I live in Vance County and am not familiar with where this road is. Help anyone?

I used to live near that area. I tried to avoid those roads because they seem so dangerous. You really have to drive very slowly to stay on your side of the road. I don't know what happened here. It's so sad for this woman and her family.

Maybe they should consider lowering the speed limit in that stretch of road or perhaps straightening or leveling out the road some. Of course that would cost money and everyone seems to be tightening up on that.

This wreck happened in the same spot where the guy got killed on the motorcycle earlier this year. This spot is a bad location, there is a steep hill, you can't see what's coming over the hill going either way. Many wrecks and near misses here over the years, sadly don't see anyway to help the situation. If you are familiar with the road you always drive on the line nearest the ditch, just in case.

Sad, Wasn't there a similar accident a few weeks ago where a car crossed the center line and hit a truck head on?
