ROANOKE RAPIDS, N.C. — A Halifax County woman was charged Thursday with stealing more than $13,000 from her elderly parents, authorities said.

Eva Fleming Swanner was charged with 39 counts each of obtaining property by false pretense, financial card theft and identity theft. She was being held Friday morning in the Halifax County Jail under a $30,000 bond.

Authorities said Swanner would take her parents' ATM cards while helping them around the house and use the cards to withdraw cash. The withdrawals occurred over two months, and several withdrawals were made on some days, authorities said.
