Woman charged with stealing from parents

Posted October 24, 2008

— A Halifax County woman was charged Thursday with stealing more than $13,000 from her elderly parents, authorities said.

Eva Fleming Swanner was charged with 39 counts each of obtaining property by false pretense, financial card theft and identity theft. She was being held Friday morning in the Halifax County Jail under a $30,000 bond.

Authorities said Swanner would take her parents' ATM cards while helping them around the house and use the cards to withdraw cash. The withdrawals occurred over two months, and several withdrawals were made on some days, authorities said.

That is one happy looking thief. Is she proud of what she has done or what?? I bet her parents aren't smiling.

Give a few months behind bars with the right crowd and that smile will be gone for ever. No more stealing by her.

She didn't even have the decency to look the least bit sorry in her mug shot. Shame on her for stealing from her parents.

If she stole from her parents as alleged, then she is indeed a reprehensible character. But don't base too much on the "mug shot"--sometimes the person snapping the photo makes a joke. Whether it's intentional or just a photography habit, the resulting photo can make the accused look foolish, or in this case, callous.

Yeah, she looks remorseful doesn't she? NOT!
She needs a little time behind bars to wipe that smug smile off her face.
