HENRICO, N.C. — A Chapel Hill woman faces charges in a girl's death on Lake Gaston.

Michelle Mock was charged with reckless and negligent operation of a watercraft, according to Sgt. Carl Hatcher of the state Wildlife Resources Commission.

Wildlife officers said Mock was operating a JetSki on Lake Gaston on June 10, and 11-year-old Taylor Vaughan and her brother, Jarred, were riding on the watercraft. Hatcher said Mock and the Vaughans' grandparents are neighbors on the lake.

Taylor Vaughan either fell off or was thrown from the craft, and Mock then ran over the girl in the water, Hatcher said. The girl's hair became entangled in the JetSki's impeller, and she drowned, he said.
