— Police charged a woman in an overnight wreck that killed a 20-year-old woman along Raleigh Boulevard Thursday evening.

Tiara Vongel Brand was driving a Chevrolet Tahoe north on Raleigh Boulevard, near Millburnie Road, shortly before 9 p.m. A southbound Lexus, driven by Brittany Antquinique Reuben, turned in front of the Tahoe and struck it, police said. The SUV overturned, and Brand was thrown from it.

Brand was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Police charged Reuben, 24, with misdemeanor death by motor vehicle and unsafe movement.

Alcohol and speed were not factors in the wreck, police said.

Why should she get more time in jail??? She is not a criminal, no DWI'S or DUI's, why waste tax payer's money? Maybe she was careless, did you ever turn on the radio or change the station, or talk on cell phone, (not saying that she did any of that), but my point is that it was an accident, misjudgment, mis calculation?? It was an accident, not intentional-maybe time for unsafe movement. It is a shame it caused a fatality and we need to pray for everyone.

So sad. Continue to pray for our careless young people that they will listen.

I see people pull out in front of on-coming traffic all the time and it amazes me that they don't get smucked when they do it.

Check the cell / text records and make sure it's not a phone related death. Sounds like something is off.

Official accident report has not been released yet and therefore the report is misleading. It is not clear if the lexus collided due to speeding of the SUV. Regardless it was not intentional, it was an accident and all parties are in our prayers. Very unfortunate for both.

The penalties for killing someone with a car are just ridiculous.

"Was the Lexus an SUV as well? Otherwise, they should recheck that speed factor. It would be hard-pressed for a lexus car to cause a Tahoe to overturn, unless of course, the driver of the Tahoe tried to swerve to avoid the Lexus."

It's actually easier than you think. SUVs are top-heavy, and easy to flip. If a sedan hits the rear quarter panel of an SUV, then it will usually flip, even if the sedan is only going 20mph or so.

Was the Lexus an SUV as well? Otherwise, they should recheck that speed factor. It would be hard-pressed for a lexus car to cause a Tahoe to overturn, unless of course, the driver of the Tahoe tried to swerve to avoid the Lexus. Sad for both families. Prayers go out to them.

Let's just keep both families in prayer. I know the mother of the young lady who died as well as the driver of the Lexus, and both families are going through very difficult times. Yes, perhaps a seatbelt could have saved a life, but there are people who die in accidents who were wearing seatbelts. When it is your time, it is your time. Let's stop the finger pointing, question asking and the what ifs and put our hands and heads together in prayer.....for all involved. Anytime any of us get in a car we could be on either side of the accident.....even when we do all of the right things. May God be with them all in these times of bereavement.
