— A 21-year-old woman died after a vehicle struck her on Hodges Road and the driver fled early Sunday, said Raleigh police spokesman Jim Sughrue.

Whitney Monique Mangum and the occupants of a vehicle driven by 24-year-old Phylicia Olivia Price, were involved in a dispute, Sughrue said. At some point, as Price's vehicle moved forward, Mangum – who was close to the vehicle – was run over near Wake Forest Road around 2:45 a.m.

The driver of another privately-owned vehicle near the scene took Mangum to Duke Raleigh Hospital, where she died.

Price drove away from the scene, but officers found her vehicle in the 5400 block of Tralee Place, about 3 miles north, off Millbrook Road, Sughrue said.

Police arrested and charged Price with felony hit-and-run.

Price was released from the Wake County Jail Sunday evening after posting a $50,000 secured bond. Her first court appearance was set for Monday.

Sughrue said that police are continuing to investigate the case. Investigators planned to meet with the Wake County District Attorney to discuss charges.

If these people in the car were her friends, I would hate to see what her enemies might have done. People need to learn self control and other coping skills, so things like this dont get out of hand. There will always be disagreements and problems, the trick is learning to deal with them without violence. My heart goes out to this young womans family.

    "familyfour:
    I don't need a reality anything....

The reality is that yes, this could have happened at anytime of the day, but the reality of it is it happened at an hour of the night that was not suitable for anyone to be out and about, unless they were working, or being productive.

Ya'll think it's all good to just have people roaming around in the middle of the night doing whatever....as long as they don't run over anyone....????

I don't think I am the one that needs a reality check.

Ya think she was out doing something good and meaningful? (before she ran over the girl) Just wondering."

You've missed the ENTIRE point!!!! Who cares she was out past midnight and what she was or was not doing...What's your point? That's why they are called NIGHT CLUBS b/c genius people go there at night!! Get your panties out of a whad!!! You can go back in that shell of a life you have...

familyfour, I agree with you 100%!! It has always been said that nothing good happens after midnight. Get yourself home and away from the trouble."

Both of you need a reality check. This is 2009, not 1909 so people are out past midnight. I'm sure you have never come in past midnight though...Yeah right!! Regardless, of the time this could have happened!!

And, don't care id she's 84...ain't go no business out at that hour.....

  • familyfour Sep 28, 2009

Well...she may not be juvenile, but she is certainly behaving that way.

Please don't miss the point over one misused word :)

Fifty thousand??? A bail bondsman will get her out then for 16K. It was murder. Maybe not first degree only because they might have been fighting.

    Unbelievable.

    Uh, familyfour:

A 24 year old woman is NOT a juvenile, by far.
