Woman bitten by rabid fox in Raleigh

Raleigh, N.C. — Multiple animal control officers responded to the 2200 block of Doral Lane Friday in conjunction with a report that a fox attacked an adult female.
Authorities located and captured the fox, which later tested positive for rabies.
The woman, Hannah Becilla, says she heard a squealing noise, and then the fox bit her without warning.
"The fox just ran toward me, jumped on me," she said. "[It] ripped my jeans and it grabbed me right here where the teeth marks are, and he ripped a hole in my jeans."
Becilla said it's a blessing that she was wearing jeans at the time of the attack and not leggings.
"I took my purse and hit it and it flew over there," Becilla said. "Then it came back and it jumped on me again and I fought it off."
Becilla said she made her way into her apartment and called animal control.
"I spent the afternoon in the ER and had about 10 shots — four in the actual wound, two in the hip and two in my arms," she said. "I have to go back three more times."
The fox is also believed to be involved with another incident that occurred on Thursday in the 2200 block of Brewer Street, where a dog was attacked and bitten. Officials said the dog’s rabies vaccination was up to date, and it received a booster.
Officials said any unusual behavior or concerns regarding animals should be reported immediately by calling 919-831-6311.
No additional information was released.
