Woman arrested for allegedly not picking up child from bus

Halifax County sheriff's deputies charged a woman on Wednesday for allegedly not picking her child up from the school bus several times.

ROANOKE RAPIDS, N.C. — Halifax County sheriff's deputies charged a woman on Wednesday for allegedly not picking her child up from the school bus several times.

Shereka Garris, 19, of Roanoke Rapids, faces one charge of contributing to the deliquency of a minor. She was placed in the Halifax County Jail under a $300 bond and given a first court date of April 22.

Investigators said that Garris' child had to be brought back to school when she wasn't at the bus stop to pick her child up. The Department of Social Services was also conducting an investigation.
