Woman arrested after puppies chewed mother's toes

Posted February 12, 2010

— A Goldsboro woman was arrested Thursday and charged with abuse after four puppies chewed off her mother's toes, police said.

Latrina Latasha Monroe, 23, of 3201 Central Heights Road, Lot 309, was charged with abuse of a disabled adult causing serious injury. She was being held in the Wayne County Jail under a $25,000 secured bond.

Police said Monroe's mother, Sandra Monroe, was taken to Wayne Memorial Hospital early Wednesday for treatment after her toes were gnawed off. Sandra Monroe is disabled, and her daughter is responsible for her care, police said.

Go ahead and dog me (pardon the pun) for my opinion, but I say let some puppies teeth on her (the daughter) toes..... an eye for an eye, and a toe for a toe. I take care of my 78 year old Mom and there is NO WAY IN HADES anything would gnaw on her period!!!! as long as I'm breathing.

"Puppies will naturally chew on anything."

They teeth until they're 12-15 months old like small children do.

BUT...something's telling me this disabled woman was left alone with them for farrr too long, and if the woman wasn't being cared for, the puppies probably weren't either.

Animals care for their own better than this, but she'll probably cop some kind of a plea and get let off with a slap on the hands because records of bonds, bails, fines and sentences clearly shows that few in courthouses care about children, the elderly or disabled, or animals.

Praying for the elderly lady, and for the puppies.

    God bless.

the daughter doesn't want her to go to a nursing home. that would be less money for her to use to go to the club! i bet she waste her mothers social security or diability check every month.

"Sandra Monroe is disabled, and her daughter is responsible for her care, police said." Obviously, she is also responsible for her toes being gnawed off. If she fed the dogs, they would not have had to eat the toes!

She should be charged here with something serious. too bad she's so sick.... to mitreat the unabled elderly such as that is just as bad as abusing small children who cann't protect herie self.

I have been taking care of my dad for 16 years... and the last 4 years, he has been confined to the bed.... I have Three dogs... and have no problems... we crate the dogs when they are in the house, when we can't watch them constantly.... or else they are outside in an enclosed area.... There is no excuse for this kind of neglect for an aging parent... it saddens me greatly for both the mother and the daughter.... I am sure she had no idea that her actions would lead to this type of consequence.... but none the less... she needs to "pay the piper" now... as bad as I feel for her, naturally I feel far worse for her mom..... hopefully she can get the care she so desperatly needs... and the daughter can reflect on her actions and change her ways before anymore damage is done to either others or herself....

The News Argus said she left the mother alone for four days.

As a person who was a caregiver for an elderly parent, this story is sickening to me! If she didn't want to take care of her mother she should have taken her somewhere where she could get care. I hope someone nibble on her the same way! This is inexcusable!
