— A 20-year-old woman was killed Tuesday night after she fell from a boat trailer and was then hit by it.

The North Carolina State Highway Patrol said Allison Bennett was riding in a boat trailer behind a truck at about 10 p.m. near Buffalo Lakes in Harnett County when the driver of the truck, Anthony James Pontano, 29, ran off the road and overcorrected.

Bennett fell out of the boat and was then struck by the trailer, troopers said. She was taken to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center where she later died.

Investigators said alcohol was a factor in the crash and charges are pending.

Pantano, a Special Forces soldier, ran from the scene but an active search is not underway, authorities said Wednesday.

No additional information was immediately available.

I think he killed himself. They found him dead in his home a few minutes ago.

So I guess he gets special treatment when anyone I know including myself would be staring down a SWAT shotgun barrel for doing that.

Prayers for her family. But is this special forces guy any sign of who America has to protect anyone?

Very sad. No proof of a DUI at this point. He'll probably turn himself in after he sobers up I'm sure.

Very sad - but WHO had the "alcohol that was a factor" and WHY is there NOT an "active search" underway when it seems this is at least fleeing from the scene of an accident?

Alcohol involved. Not surprised. Senseless loss of a young life.

Really, senselessly, tragic. My sympathies to the families involved and a smack on the head for whomever didn't teach her not to ride there!
