RALEIGH, N.C. — A chilly Monday morning quickly turned into a mild, spring-like day that will start a warming trend for the rest of the week.

"After a chilly Sunday with highs in the mid 50s, temps will bump up today," said WRAL meteorologist Elizabeth Gardner. "Our temps will be about ten degrees warmer [than they were] yesterday."

Temperatures should climb into the mid 60s by 2 p.m. as skies become partly cloudy, but, according to Gardner, rain is unlikely until Tuesday.

Temperatures on Tuesday and Wednesday will be even warmer, approaching 70 degrees, as the chance for rain sets in. According to Gardner, the chance for rain on these days is likely, around 40 percent, but showers will be brief.

"Our next chance of rain comes Tuesday night," said Gardner. "Amounts will likely be light, but it could linger into Wednesday morning, making the morning commute a little wet."

Forecasts show that the warmest and driest days of the week will be Thursday and Friday, when the chance for rain disintegrates and highs reach 71 degrees. The weekend will cool down again, with highs dropping back into the 50s.
