Designer Consignors, the twice-a-year consignment sale featuring women's clothing and accessories and home decor, has been a successful venture for the two moms behind it - Candace Anderson and Alice White.

The sale, now in its second year, is held in Cary. Each sale, they've grown their base of consignors and customers, the two tell me.

"Each year, it gets a little bit bigger," said White, a mom of a teenager from Willow Spring.

But the two decided they weren't satisfied with the success of just one sale. Instead, they decided to answer a question they've gotten from friends, shoppers and consignors: Will you please start a children's sale?

Their new sale, JoCo Kids Consignment Sale, will open this week in Clayton, adding to the options for children's consignment sale shoppers in Johnston County.
"We've had a great response from people in this area," said Anderson, a mom of five boys in Clayton and Frugal Mom blogger.

The two met at church and were business associates before they became close friends. White knew that Anderson was a blogger and had experience with web design. White had run two children's consignment sales elsewhere. With six boys between then, both had been long-time consignment sale shoppers.

White thought a sale featuring women's clothing would be popular. When White mentioned her idea to Anderson, Anderson immediately signed on.

"I think I started jumping up and down and doing back flips," Anderson said.

White and Anderson tell me they're filling a need among families in Johnston County. Most of region's children's consignment sales, where parents can pick up gently used clothes, toys and more for their kids at bargain prices, are in Wake County.

"There's a need here so people don't have to travel so far," White said.

The two have forged a business relationship and now a close friendship as they work on the sales.

"It's blossomed into besties," White said.

JoCo Kids Consignment is accepting clothing in sizes newborn to youth size 20, maternity clothes, some furniture, toys and more.

The sale opens to the public from 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m., Thursday, with a special public pre-sale. To shop early during this time, admission is $3. The money will support local kids' mission trip to Haiti.

The public sale continues (with no admission fee) from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., Thursday through Saturday. Some items are half off on Saturday.

It takes place at the Clayton Corners Shopping Center near Lowe's Foods at 11761 U.S. 70 Business Highway West in Clayton.
