With move coming, Glass Jug hopes to keep down time short

Posted July 15

The Glass Jug Beer Lab hopes to only be closed for a week when it moves into a new location, but it will reopen with more to offer.

The bottle shop announced earlier this year its plans to move and open a small brewery. As they get closer to opening the new space, Chris Creech, owner and now head brewer, said the plan is to keep the down time to a minimum.

The new spot, just a few doors down from where they were in Greenwood Commons Shopping Center in Durham, will be about 60 percent bigger and house a three-barrel brewing system where Creech can work on some small-batch brews.

"We'll have a big outdoor beer garden out back, put in some picnic tables, string up some lights, some sun shades, get some cornhole going," Creech said on the 919 Beer Podcast.

The old spot's lights, bar tops, tables and shelves will be moved over, but Creech said the new space will have a new feel, as well.

Creech said he and his wife, who run the shop together, knew the location in south Durham near Research Triangle Park was a beer desert. But the shop has become an oasis for the community.

"We've really become a central part of the community in our area and we've got some great customers, some great regulars who hang out with us," Creech said. "So, that's what's driving our expansion."
