RALEIGH, N.C. — The late-autumn days in the 70s are over, at least for awhile, across central North Carolina. Unseasonable warmth gives way to days with highs in the 50s and frost warnings through the weekend.

The average temperature across the Triangle dropped by about 25 degrees from Thursday to Friday, and Friday's high temperature will be closer to Thursday's low – in the mid-50s. That's just a touch off the normal for this time of year, WRAL meteorologist Elizabeth Gardner said.

Grab the coat! Much colder with temps in the 30s this morning!

"We have bright sunshine all across the area. We're going to see a gorgeous day today, but temperatures will be cooler than normal," Gardner said.

Sunny skies will keep the chill away through Saturday before high clouds move in, Gardner said.

"A high pressure system will keep us dry and cool into tomorrow, and then it will shift eastward and clouds will take over," Gardner said.

Sunday gets a bit more gray and even colder. The high that day won't get out of the 40s, with the chance for light rain later in the day.

The chance for rain is not widespread, but it is in the forecast daily Sunday through Tuesday with respite Wednesday before showers return.

7-Day Forecast

The mountains of western North Carolina could even see a light shower of snow Saturday night into Sunday morning, Gardner said.
