Wilson police arrest man in 7-year-old's shooting

Posted July 31, 2014

— Police said Thursday that they have arrested a man in connection with the death of a 7-year-old Wilson boy killed in his bedroom last week and that they expect more arrests.

Kamari Jones died July 23 after someone started shooting outside his home on Parkview Street. He was inside when a bullet flew through a window and struck him in the head, according to neighbors.

Montavius Syquan Davis, 24, of 7726 Gardners School Road, Stantonsburg, was jailed without bond on a charge of first-degree murder.

Investigators haven't commented on their investigation or offered a possible motive for the crime. Neighbors, however, reported seeing a man between two duplexes firing shots across the street, hitting at least two cars.

"The community’s help allowed us to work this case to a point where an arrest could be made," Wilson Police Sgt. Steven Stroud said in a statement.

He urged anyone who might have information about the case to contact the Wilson Police Department at 252-399-2323 or Crime Stoppers at 252-243-2255.

Jones' death has brought together the local community.

About 100 residents, city leaders and law enforcement officers gathered Sunday night for a vigil outside the Wilson County Courthouse to remember the boy and to call for justice in his death.

@justcommonsense said, “Ya'll just do not get it. Absolutely no logic, only your agenda.”

(People keep flagging my responses, so maybe this one will stick... sheesh, why are you afraid of what I say?)

It is absolutely logical to have laws restricting behavior. But, doing so is not a guarantee that people will not break the law. For example, if you don’t have laws against stealing or murder, then what do you have?

So...again...are you in favor of laws restricting gun purchases, like I am, from violent felons and the dangerously insane?

Theft is illegal, but people keep committing theft. How is that law working out for ya? I mean, you're saying that we shouldn't even bother having such a law, right?

Or, are you in favor of laws restricting gun purchases, like I am, from violent felons and the dangerously insane?

is get guns out of the equation like they do in every other Western Country.

That is a start. Tired of innocent killings; especially ones involving children.

There was probably something that happened to get this all started, but the fact remains a 7 year old was killed. This thing deserves the needle....but you know it will not happen. Some ambulance chaser will plead it down.

In other words, punish those who abide by the law for the actions of a few violent criminals. Take guns out of the equation? So only government officials will then have them? That is the opposite of what the founders had in mind when they wrote the Constitution.

The killing has got to stop and some time we need to say that family, parents or lack thereof is responsible.

And your answer is? The reality is you cannot make people good parents so what do we do......first obvious answer is get guns out of the equation like they do in every other Western Country. Good solid gun regulation will do that, as it has done in EVERY other Western Country. Americans are not especially criminal...they simply are averagely criminal but have guns which turn silly spats into tradegies like this one.

So hoe do we fix it. Vote out every Tea Party GOP politician that is "approved" by the NRA. The NRA exists to sell guns for its paymasters.......if it approves something you know its not good for America.

You said it all right there.
No Morals a person's standards of behavior or beliefs concerning what is and is not acceptable for them to do.

so we've traded having to look at one murderers face on the 'front page' for having to now look at another murderers face.....very sad testament to our society
