WILSON, N.C. — A Wilson man pleaded guilty Wednesday to attacks on three women, one of them fatal.

Richard Wayne Sauls, 32, of 5011 Boswellville Road, was charged in the July 2008 stabbing death of Ann Lindsay Fulghum and attacks on prostitutes in November 2006 and last July, authorities said.

Sauls submitted an Alford plea to second-degree murder, felonious restraint and felonious larceny from a person. An Alford plea means the accused maintains his innocence while acknowledging that prosecutors had enough evidence to possibly win a conviction

Sauls will serve the sentences for each of the three charges consecutively. He could spend between 15 and 20 years in prison.
