— A wreck involving a car and an auto-transport truck sent one driver to the hospital and closed N.C. Highway 42 in Willow Spring for hours Tuesday morning.

North Carolina state troopers said the crash happened about 11 a.m. near Johnny Baker Road. They think the car may have hydroplaned on the rain-soaked roadway, but the investigation is not complete.

The driver of the passenger car was in critical condition at WakeMed, troopers said. The driver of the transport truck was not seriously injured.

More information will be released as it becomes available.

Unfortunately the gentleman in the car did not make it. Prayers out to his family.

I passed right after it happened before emergency crews arrived. A lot of people had stopped and a man was standing beside the car on his cell phone. I didn't see anyone in the car but it was in bad shape. Let's hope they make a full recovery. Let's also hope the state repave the roads we have instead of building a bunch of useless thoroughfares.
