The inaugural Outlaw Music Festival debuted in 2016 in Scranton, Pennsylvania featuring Willie Nelson and Family, Neil Young and Promise of the Real, Sheryl Crow, Chris Robinson Brotherhood, Lee Ann Womack and Cabinet. The sold-out show was so well received that Nelson partnered with the event promoter Blackbird Presents again to take the show on the road in 2017.

The initial lineup for Raleigh includes Willie Nelson, Sturgill Simpson, Alison Krauss and Delta Rae. The Charlotte show will feature Nelson, Simpson, Elvis Costello and The Imposters, Old Crow Medicine Show and Brandi Carlile. More artists will be added for each city.
