RALEIGH, N.C. — Students were evacuated from Wiley Elementary School in Raleigh Thursday afternoon after smoke was reported in the building.

According to district officials, all students were moved to the playground after smoke was seen coming from the building’s boiler room. No fire was detected in the building, and the evacuation was described as a safety precaution.

No injuries were reported.

Because the evacuation happened near the end of the school day, parents were given the option to pick students up early if possible.

Children who cannot be picked up early will be placed on their bus or picked up by a parent at the usual time.

After school care for students who attend YMCA after school programs will still be provided, but students and faculty may not have access to the building.

Classes remain scheduled as normal for Friday.
