Wife to face charges in Benson wreck that killed husband

Posted June 24, 2013

— Charges are pending against a Dunn woman in a crash late Sunday that killed her husband, authorities said.

The wreck occurred on southbound N.C. Highway 242, about 6 miles from Benson, shortly before 8 p.m.

Authorities said William David Edwards, 54, died when the car he was riding in ran off the left side of the highway and struck a tree.

Driver Angela Parker Edwards, 50, was listed in serious condition Monday at WakeMed in Raleigh.

Authorities said Angela Edwards was driving too fast for the conditions, adding that heavy rain and worn tires also were factors in the crash.

mrsv0418 Please let this couples son know how sorry I am. I agree that this woman has been through enough.

Accidents do happen to anyone no matter how careful you think you are. All this bashing is ridiculous. A woman just lost her husband and a son who lost his father. I know the pain you are going through and will have to endure. To bring about charges...thats stupid...leave this family alone they are going through enough already. God Bless your family!

mrsv0418, this won't happen to me because I know how to drive safely.

Sounds like Mr. Edwards should have bought those new tires when she complained about them. (total assumption there) I know in my house, I'm responsible to maintain our vehicles. In most families the husband is responsible for the maintenance of the vehicles. Just sayin...

Keep in mind, as many have said, "Authorities said Angela Edwards was driving too fast for the conditions". They didn't say she was speeding. That's why they call them "accidents". This is a VERY sad story.

My husband works with this couples son. He has been going to the hospital everyday to visit his mother who may not make it, all the while knowing his father is gone. Now god willing his mother pulls through, they'll have to deal with fighting the charges against her, as if she isn't going to relive that moment everyday for the rest of her life. Put yourself in their position, a funeral, a long recovery, and now possibly jail time. She should not be charged, accidents happen, we're human, we all make mistakes. All of you bashing her have made mistakes too, you just either haven't been caught or thankfully you made it out alive. Don't act like you're perfect, it can happen to anyone, even you.

An accident turned to tragedy. Now the wife is charged in killing her husband. She is going through enough, why this charge?

  • ncsislamesauce Jun 25, 2013

So you all that are against charges are ok with someone breaking a law if something bad happens to them in turn? That makes NO sense.

You break a law, you are charged. It doesn't matter what the circumstances are.

A policeman told me that you can be given a ticket for going to fast for existing conditions if you have a wreck no matter what! He said if you had been going slow enough you could have avoided the accident. I said yeah, like not moving? He said that would work.

She should not have been running in the rain on bald tires. Cryahn07, how would you feel if her negligence killed one of your loved ones?

Awful situation, but sheesh, she shouldn't face charges, unless she was drunk or on drugs. Wow. I can't believe we have illegal aliens roaming the streets and we don't deport them or lock up the criminal illegals, but we're going to charge this woman for a judgment error? She'll never forgive herself for her husband's death.
