BENSON, N.C. — Charges are pending against a Dunn woman in a crash late Sunday that killed her husband, authorities said.

The wreck occurred on southbound N.C. Highway 242, about 6 miles from Benson, shortly before 8 p.m.

Authorities said William David Edwards, 54, died when the car he was riding in ran off the left side of the highway and struck a tree.

Driver Angela Parker Edwards, 50, was listed in serious condition Monday at WakeMed in Raleigh.

Authorities said Angela Edwards was driving too fast for the conditions, adding that heavy rain and worn tires also were factors in the crash.
