Wife killed, husband hurt in Onslow motorcycle crash

Posted June 2, 2014

— A Pender County woman was killed and her husband injured when their motorcycle collided with a pickup truck Sunday in Onslow County.

State trooopers said Sally Brumfield, 47, of Maple Hill, was riding on the motorcycle driven by her husband, Edward Earl Brumfield, when the truck made a left turn in front of them on Garganus Road, near N.C. Highway 53.

Sally Brumfield died from her injuries. Edward Brumfield was taken to New Hanover County Medical Center. His condition was unknown.

The pickup truck driver, Robert Wooten, suffered minor injuries and is charged with misdemeanor death and failure to yield, authorities said.

My prayers go out to Mr.Brumfield and to the other family/friends of Mrs. Brumfield. It'll be interesting to see what Mr. Wooten says as to why he didn't see them and caused the fatal accident.

a quick check of tv stations in eastern NC show the wreck was in onslow county and the patients were taken to new Hanover regional

Yeah I think WRAL goofed on this one. There is a gerganus road in maple hill nc in the eastern part of the state near wilmington and that would make sense for the patients to be taken to New Hanover Medical which is the trauma center in wilmington.

I think there's something wong here. Therre's no Gerganus Rd in Harnett County and why would the husband be taken to Hanover Hospital? I don't even know where that is.

This is why I quit riding! Then, I crashed my bicycle and broke my wrist...

That's a shame. Lots of riders out, enjoying the southern roads and weather. When I ride, I assume EVERY driver is out to get me.
