RALEIGH, N.C. — The 140th Kentucky Derby is this Saturday, and if you can't make it to Louisville, at least you can attend one of the Triangle's Derby Day events:
A Day at the Derby with Washington Duke Inn: The inn will be celebrating the Derby all day long with TV coverage, brunch, afternoon tea and more! The three-course "Derby at Dusk" dinner is $35. And don't forget to check out their Derby cocktails! They make a tasty mint julep!
Derby Day Party at The Oxford in Raleigh: Contests for the best seersucker suit and best big hat highlight this annual party. Everything kicks off at 2 p.m.
Clayton Derby Day at Portofino: This fun event has something for everyone in the family: horseback riding and a bounce house for the kids, a fashion show, live music, mint juleps (of course) and live coverage of the Derby.
Fun for the Roses Derby Day Party at Trali Irish Pub in Raleigh: Mixing the Kentucky Derby along with the traditions of Irish racing and festivals, this Brier Creek restaurant and bar will celebrate the big day with Derby-inspired appetizers, mint juleps, best dressed contests and more! It is $10 to get in and everything starts at 4 p.m.
Galloping on the Green Derby Party at Lafayette Village in Raleigh: This family-friendly festival features attractions for the kids, like face painting, pony rides and inflatables, as well as adults. There will be live music from The Moonlighters Orchestra and a hat contest.
