ascherer - thank you for sharing their suggestions. :-)

  • ascherer Nov 12, 2014

Some of them make me laugh but here are some of the phrases the soldiers suggested:

    I am praying for you.
    Are you getting enough sleep?
Keep your Kevlar on and your head down.
Always carry a roll of TP.
    Did you shower today?
I hope you are eating well.
These phrases sound like a letter a Mom would send a kid at camp and all came from one guy.

Regardless of your job assignment, you took an oath to protect and defend the Constitution of the United States. I really appreciate the sacrifice of your civil liberties for the sake of mine. This phrase is from a different guy but is really more of what I was looking for.

And I am with you and B-RAN. I would eat shrimp every day of the week if I could afford it.

ascherer - that is interesting about the soldiers. Please share some of the phrases they do appreciate.

B-RAN - Love you pun regarding binging no the PBS shows! Very funny. And your shrimp with old bay and homemade cocktail sauce sounds delicious. I could eat shrimp every night if my budget was a tad more robust. :-)

I love all of this talk about chowder. I see some in my near future. Anyone have a good recipe for clam chowder they are will to share?

Thanks for the wishes of good luck. I am helping to organizing the ladies to do letter to soldiers. I was lucky enough to talk with a couple of soldiers that had recently returned for "the sandbox". I was very surprised to learn that they don't like hearing "Thank you for your service" because they don't feel it is sincere. So I asked each one to write down a few phrases they would like to hear. I'm hoping it will help.

Faye- that shrimp with veggies sounds good!
Raesmom-I've never been a fan of corn chowder. I guess probably because I dont like creamed corn lol. Now clam chowder? YUM!!!
Tonight we are having venison loin wrapped in turkey bacon and grilled. Roasted red potatoes with EVO, garlic, and rosemary. Grilled asparagus, roasted brussel sprouts, and grilled romaine lettuce. Blueberries, raspberries, blackberries, and pina with creme for dessert.

Tonight we are having the last of our leftover chicken pot pie from last week. Made the whole thing for about $5 and I've eaten it for 4 meals and my husband for 3 meals plus tonight! A great, frgual winter meal :)

Raesmom- I'm with you- LOVE corn chowder!!! And we also didn't make it to beach this year, either :-(

Faye- wow! I still get excited to bring out my winter clothes. In Santa Barbara, we mostly just had the same clothes year round. YAY for scarves, gloves and fuzzy boots!

B-RAN- so glad you've seen it! Isn't it AMAZING!!! :-)

    Thanks Faye and RFB!

RFB that chowder does sound good. My favorite is a Corn Chowder that I make with corn, creamed corn, potatoes, onions and bacon...mmmmmmmmmmmmm SOOOO good, but DH hates it. The only time I make it is when we go home for Rae's bday in Jan. My family LOVES it so I make a HUGE pot which is devoured by mom, dad, 7 sisters, and various nieces and nephews (Its a really big pot lol)

Not really ready for this cold stuff!!! My summer wasnt long enough.....we didnt make it to the beach at all this year :(
