Raesmom, sorry Rae isn't feeling great -- yes, it's allergies :( How cute she wanted to bake. From the time I was a kid, I always loved to bake when I'm under the weather. It always makes me feel better. Enjoy your baked ziti!!

Observant, I wouldn't freeze baked ziti. JMHO, of course, but to me frozen pasta is always mushy.

Nakabi - your cookies sounds delicious! Would you share the recipe please?

Observant - I should have given you a list of what I use lol

1box of penne or ziti noodles (boil in water til al dente)

2 jars of store bought spaghetti sauce

    16 oz sour cream

about half a bag of shred cheese (so one whole bag since I use 2 kinds)

about a half of an onion and a half of a pepper chopped up as well as a handful of mushrooms chopped up and 2 "nubs" of garlic which I grate right into the meat using my cheese grater

    Good luck

With good sales this meal can be cheap and last at least 2 days at our house. We never have enough left over to freeze so I'm sorry I can't help you there.

Nakabi-I love my baked ziti :)

observant and rfb-thanks on the oven and well wishes for Rae ;)

observant-baked ziti is sorta like lasagna, same concept, different noodles. I use penne or ziti noodles, ground beef (some ppl use no meat or ground turkey), red sauce (homemade or store bought like Prego or ragu), sour cream, shredded cheddar cheese and shredded mozzarella cheese. I put a bit of the meat sauce (which I add fresh veggies to including onions, peppers, mushrooms, garlic and tomatoes) on the bottom of a 13x9 pan. Then I add half of my noodles. On top of the noodles I start with a layer of the meat sauce, then a layer of the sour cream, then my cheese layers. I top that off with the other half of the noodles then open up a jar of store bought pasta or use left over homemade sauce and pour it over the noodles (I like mine very saucy and cheesy). Bake in the oven for 30-45 mins on 350 and dinner is done :D I really hope you give it a shot!!

Steak (hubby found quite the deal a few weeks ago), loaded mashed potatoes (made a huge batch of Pioneer Woman's mashed potatoes recipe last week), green beans.

Raesmom-you and your baked ziti!! LOL.
Tonight it's eggplant parmesan using some eggplant from the garden. We will have a side salad using veggies from the garden and garlic bread using up the French loaf I got for .79 yesterday. Made cranberry walnut cookies yesterday with the kids so those are dessert.
