    Ascherer, it sounds like the pork you got will be wonderful especially since they were home-smoked, so to speak. I have no clue how to cook that, and it sounds like a totally different cut of meat from what my Mom used to make. Hopefully someone here can chime in and help!

    jdouiglas - The Boston B*tt is from a fund raiser my BIL's church did. They got the Boston B*tts and smoked them. That is how I ended up with one and I have no clue what to do with it. I think it has to be a good cut of meat because of how many were sold. Thanks

    Nakabi - yes, I do make my own pasta and have been for about 35 years. I have an old Atlas pasta machine (crank style) that I use to thin out the pasta sheets. I can cut lasagna noodles, spaghetti, linguini, and flat pasta for stuffing like ravioli. I don't have the capability to make macaroni or ziti or any of that kind of pasta. When I gear up for making pasta I make a ton of it and either dry it or freeze it.

    Green beans amandine are simply greens beans that have been boiled or steamed until just tender (still a little crunch to them). I take slivered almonds and toast them in butter. After I have drained the beans I pull them in half lengthwise to make French-style beans, toss them in the pan with the almonds, salt and pepper to taste, and douse with some lemon juice for freshness. Easy-peasy!

    After all that, I didn't make it to Fresh Market. It was 38 degrees and raining when I got out of the dentist, and I had an hour ride ahead of me, and was afraid the weather might turn to freezing rain or snow. My old broken joints were sure predicting snow!

    Maybe we should all meet up at Fresh Market next Tuesday for frugal asparagus! Sure hope they have it again!

    Since I got neither the asparagus nor the breakfast sausage, and DW has begged not to have M&C again, it looks like stuffed shells will be on the menu tonight along with some garlic bread to make up for my garlic deprivation last night.

    PS Nakabi, my Mom has a really eclectic palate and a special fondness for organ meat. Since I was nearly vegetarian when I was a kid because I disliked meat so much, I really struggled with some of her "special meals". LOL. Nowadays, I like "normal meat", but still don't have the stomach for some of her faves.

    Last night we had a mostly meatless meal of spinach and cheese ravioli in a marinara sauce with a Caesar salad (with bacon per my DH) and garlic bread.

    Tonight will be a roasted chicken with a sage dressing using up some old sour dough bread, and green beans amandine. I will also make some gravy.

    I'm coming down with some crud so tomorrow will be an easy meal of tomato bisque and grilled cheese sandwiches.

    Jdouglas-you make me laugh with some of your comments about your mum's cooking :)
    do you ever make hollaindaise sauce? That would be lovely over some asparagus.
    Navy Mom-the rare times I don't do my meal planning, I definitely spend more money! It's sad how quickly that money starts adding up :( Great job on getting back to your meal planning!
