What's for dinner this weekend?

Posted June 15, 2013

Strawberries

Here's the place to share your meal ideas for the evening, post where you bought the ingredients frugally and even share a recipe if you would like. If you need some inspiration for your own dinner tonight, this may give you some helpful ideas for what to make with all the great deals you have bought on sale recently.

What's on your menu tonight?

Faye, your Fathers' Day dinner sounds very nice and I'm drooling over the angel food cake. One of my faves!

I haven't seen the critter again, but we had to buy DW some rubber gloves and a disposable scrubber so she can get the grill all cleaned up. You KNOW I will NEVER be the one to start the grill again. Ever.

Turns out tonight we are have corn on the cob, salad, and baby back ribs (in the oven) that were BOGO at HT today. They were out of ice cream, but we did get RCs and got the paper towels and laundry soap deals too. We are making a trip to HT again tomorrow to get the Sunday only water deal, and I'm thinking of going to the one in Cary across from Whole Foods, since I need a couple of things there as well. Maybe someone will have ice cream!

Pasta tomorrow, for sure, before I go into withdrawal. ;)

jdouglas - you are too funny! Guess that grill isn't yet a mouse-free zone! LOL I see you are on the same carb and produce theme as we are this evening. :-)

Tonight it's Mueller's Veggie pasta with Barilla mushroom pasta sauce, a side of sauteed zucchini, onions and yellow squash with parmesan, Sister Shubert rolls, and watermelon that I just picked up from the local farm stand. So basically carbs and produce. :-)

Tomorrow is protein night for Father's Day with grilled cheeseburgers on onion rolls, grilled chicken breast with an herb & garlic marinade, appetizer of Aidell's teriyaki pineapple chicken meatballs in the crockpot (they were sampling them at Lowes Foods today and they were on sale with coupon so I was sucked in - they were really tasty!), pasta salad with veggies, watermelon, angel food cake with strawberries, blueberries and whipped cream.

ascherer - I am so glad to hear your dad is doing better today. I hope he comes home very soon. As Dstned mentioned, they are very lucky to have you there to take care of the house and to give them support. I bet your Father's Day will be better knowing he is on the mend!

Brats with peppers and onions on buns, fruit salad, and chips.

Sounds like you're doing a great job holding down the homefront for your parents! Hope your dad has a speedy recovery, ascherer!

I forgot this was the dinner post. NOT pizza on the grill LOL! Something I can cook inside where it's nice and safe! ;) Probably pasta carbonara with a salad or mac & cheese with broccoli.

I'm thrilled that I was able to make enough freezer space for the B2G3 HT ice cream that's on sale. Pasta and ice cream make a perfect dinner, and are very soothing for whatever ails you. :)

ascherer, I'm sending you and your folks lots of good thoughts. Glad your Dad is doing better. It's hard when your parents are facing serious illness.

I have to say, I envy your Mom's garden and freezer. They both sound awesome!

Faye - Thank you. I am a typical baby girl and Daddy's girl. Anything wrong with my Daddy and I go into survival mode (just get through it and you can fall apart once everything is over). Luckily, Daddy is doing much better today. I still can't believe he is doing this much better in less than 24 hours after heart surgery.

Now my Momma is a couponer and farm raised girl. So I have her garden out back to supplement everything. I have her incredibly well stocked freezer of RTE foods. I need to go through her coupons and see what she needs that she has coupons expiring soon.

She is a great roll model and a treasure. Hopefully, they will be home by mid-week.

I am so sorry your dad is sick, ascherer. I hope he is feeling better very soon.

I found some frozen pork BBQ tonight. I pulled a squash and a cuke off the vine last night. There is a tomato waiting on me to come get it. Some times you just got to love being at Momma's house. Just not the circumstances. Now it is off to the garden again. Got to pick some more and make sure everything gets watered. Momma will fuss if I let anything happen to her garden while she is at the hospital helping Daddy get better.

Happy weekend to all. This big city girl is going to see how much I remember of what g'ma and g'dad taught me.
