Lol no Greys for me jdouglas. I'm not a fan of "medical shows" although I hear it has a lot of drama. My sis and BFF are obsessed with Greys.....i stick with Scandal :)

Dinner, since this is the dinner thread and I should occasionally answer the question, is going to be (yes, it's after 9 pm and we haven't eaten yet) spinach salad with hardboiled egg slices, raw sliced mushrooms, bacon, slivered red onion, and homemade blue cheese dressing. Leftover birthday cheesecake for dessert.

Raesmom - no Grays? :( Love Grays.

Granoftwenty - enjoy your time at the beach! Hope everything was ok.

Nakabi, what a great deal on pine nuts! Wow! I would have stocked up too. Re the piecrust, I have made a shortbread crust (not from cookies) -- think lemon squares, and a graham craker crust which is basically the same idea as a shortbread crust from cookies. Both were really good. My cheesecake has a graham craker crust -- g.c. crumbs, melted butter, sugar, a little salt. No prebaking required for that one. It may be different with the shortbread crust. I can't recall as it's been a while.

Speaking of cable, we don't have it. None of us watch tv really since we do so many things outside and just wouldn't watch it enough to justify it. Can't see spending $100+ on it. Mr. Nichols would enjoy the sports, but he just goes to a friends house if he really wants to if he has the time. Our tv is on about 10-20 minutes a day when the Littles are watching Wild Kratts (educational show). Other than that, there's nothing else on we really watch. Yup, we are boring! !!
Jdouglas-i agree, pinenuts are super expensive! Our Aldi had some for $4.99/lb back in December and I stocked up.
Granof20-I normally make my key lime pie with key limes, but the store I buy them was out so I had to make due with the regular.
JDouglas-have you ever made a pie crust with short bread cookies? Saw a recipe with one and thought I'd give it a try for a change from my regular pie crusts.

Community Potluck tonight -- I am taking turkey meatballs with cranberry dipping sauce , baked beans ( by request ) and pumpkin custard .
GRANOF TWNETY -I hope all is well at your beach place . My mouth is watering thinking of your fresh seafood and grilled corn ( not to mention the strawberries and angel food cake )
We bought the $1000 antenna( recomended) so we could "cut the cord" - it gets 2 channels on a clear day ( 11.1 and 11.2 ).we can buy a booster after someone comes and tests our area ( test is $200 ) - the booster will be between $400 and $1200 .
We have DirecTv - DH called and they gave us a $10 loyalty discount and offered to drop the sports channels for more savings !
I agree, the downstream options are a pain - so slow and lots of buffering . It took us 3 hours and 17 minute to watch something that was 45 minute without commercials !
Until high speed and reasonably price internet reaches our neck of the woods we will stay with DirecTv

Tonight is leftovers night so it will probably end up being Mexican food... which I am always ok with :)

We don't have cable at our house and are afraid to get it because we know once we have it we'll never want to stop. Why add something to take up more time that we aren't really missing now? We have a digital antenna hooked to one TV and get 5-10 channels depending on the weather. I was a big TV watcher growing up so it took a few years to get used to it but now that I am I'm trying to put off getting cable for as long as possible.

GranofTwenty- me too! I find that the more veggies I add, the more I can make the main dish stretch :-)

Jdouglas- the other services were so much more difficult as well! With sling, it took forever to find your show and load, and ugh. Hopefully Time Warner will have some competition out here soon, so we'll get better service and prices. And on the pesto- I never add nuts (allergic). I find it is just as flavorful as a pistou.

RFB, I'm with Raesmom, You're brave for trying to cut the cord. Not easy! I'm a bit of a reality show junkie myself.

Nakabi, no pine nuts, sadly, in the pesto. The price of them is just over the moon. Even worse than the parm! I can't remember if I put in walnuts or not. But it is reggiano parm, basil from the garden, Italian parsley, and EVOO for sure.

We came to the coast to check on things
tonight is seafood - either catch it or from local market . I got some delicious corn at Food Lion yesterday so grilling that and having a mixed greens salad.
Nakabi - I hope Aldi's near home has pineapples at that price ! I have been waiting and watching for weeks for a good price .Do you make your key lime pie with real key limes or just any lime ??
RALEIGHFOODBLOGGER - I love it when meals STRETCH !!
Dishes I could do without as well - no one would want my hands in a dishsoap commercial ( maybe the "before" pictures ?? lol )
I understand about the cable/satellite - after recent discussions here at the blog , I did some research of other options/ selections - at this time I can not find an acceptable alternative for where we live ..

You were very brave for even leaving cable RFB. We got rid of the boxes and there are a few things I miss, but we are down to just the standard 75 channels and idk what I would do without them sometimes. Some days I just need tv junk to get away lol. I am going to give your lasagna rolls a try too, that site is pretty awesome. Thanks for sharing it :)
