Pasta Salad

Here's the place to share your meal ideas for the evening, post where you bought the ingredients frugally and even share a recipe if you would like. If you need some inspiration for your own dinner tonight, this may give you some helpful ideas.

    Jdouglas-we all know I cant cook without my oven LOl so I usually do my pork chops in the oven smothered either in sausage gravy, or brown gravy (usually a can of brown gravy or a packet of pioneer sausage gravy) or ill put some adobo on both sides with a bit of rosemary and thyme, add a splash of vinegar and water (about a quart cup each) and in the oven they go! About 20-30 mins later they are ready and they just fall apart!! So good!!! Now I want pork chops lol.

    Losltp-I will pack her bags and have her ready......dont forget where you picked her up, because I'm sure you will be back in about 30 mins lol

    Jdouglas - Normally I just pan fry the thin pork chops. Season them well. Put them in a hot pan with a little bit of oil (just enough oil to come up about 1/4 of the sides). Leave them alone until you see the sides are changing color. Then flip them over to cook the other side. Leaving them alone helps create a crust and they don't absorb as much grease. It is just chops, oil and seasoning. Now I don't have a clue how to grill them! ;-)

    Ascherer, your menu sounds really good. DW would enjoy it if I could cook pork chops. Can't do it to save my life. Shoe leather every time. I wish I could grill them successfully.

    Tonight is going to be pork chops (if Kroger has any pretty ones) with stuffing and green beans. If not, then tacos.

    raesmom you will not need as many bedrooms when I come and get RAE ! LOL
    I hope the stock works for you !! You will find with stock available you will use it a lot in many recipes- even as the liquid to cook rice or potatoes !

    RFB, have you seen smoked trout anywhere?

    Raesmom, just toss the drippings and raw potatoes together, add a little garlic, and throw the whole thing in the oven in a roasting pan. In fact, I have roasted chicken and potatoes together in the same pan with good results. And I can vouch for just how much Rae LOVES her kitty! LOL Run, kitty, run! ;)

    losltp~nope not allergic, in fact we have a cat at home that she loves, but lets just say the kitty was happy being an only child lol. I am going to try the stock in ice trays and see how that works.......we use stock in our dressing for thanksgiving and I would love to try homemade stock instead of the store bought stuff with so much salt in it. As far as the new house. We are looking to stay in Wake County. preferably Raleigh, Knightdale or Wake Forest. Those 3 are tops on the list, but really I might take anything that is 3bdrm, 2 bath, 2 story with a nice sized yard........the walls are closing in on us lol

    jdouglas~the drippings over potatoes!! My mouth is watering!! That sounds amazing. Ill have to give it a shot.

    I feel a lot more comfortable with the chicken now so I will be keeping my eyes peeled for whole chickens on sale again :)

    Jdouglas- I've seen some recipes for smoked trout cakes, but was luckily to find one using just baked trout. I get it frozen at Trader Joe's.

    RFB, your mention of trout reminded me of the smoked trout my Mom used to serve. It was one of her "special" foods, but one I used to enjoy. I wouldn't even know where to buy that now??

    Garnertoy, my DW would be in heaven with your menu! All of her faves.

    Raesmom, I glad to hear the chicken turned out so well! You go girl!! ;) Did you happen to save any of the drippings? You can freeze them too to make gravy at your convenience. I'd recommend using Losltp's ice cube method for the drippings -- you'd just need one or two depending how much gravy you want to make. You could also use the drippings as the fat for oven roasted potatoes. Delicious if you like potatoes!

    We finally finished up the spaghetti sauce last night with my new fave pasta shape - Cellentani. Sort of corkscrew elbow macaroni that's also very good in M&C. I think shrimp is on the menu tonight, maybe scampi style over rice with some broccoli thrown in.
