Ascherer, thanks for the welcome home :)

Losltp, that's crazy - $4 for iced tea! They better refill my glass half a dozen times if they are going to charge me that. :( In any case, your dinner sounds lovely - enjoy!

Final verdict for tonight's menu - M&C with hidden broccoli, side salad. The M&C is under the broiler getting perfectly blackened on top as I type.

Faye - yes almost $4 ! The receipt showed $3.79 for an iced tea yesterday . We asked about it since on the menu the price was still $1.99 .The waitress got management who eventually took one beverage off our bill and changed the menu price ASAP.
kinda depressing/annoying to be charged so much for a watered down drink that no one refilled during the meal .
If water is free I will have that next time .

I'll have to check out FL for the watermelon, even though DW was in a bit of shock that I spent $17 on veg and cherries yesterday. I admit to having looked like a fool thumping watermelons and having no clue at what I was supposed to be hearing hahahaha! I like the yellow belly tip better. I know with cantaloupe, if you can press the spot where the stem was and it gives and it is fragrant, it is supposed to be a good one.

I just read a tip on how to pick the perfectly ripe avocado: remove the little brown nub thing from where the stem was. If under that, it is green, it is not ripe, if it is brown, it is overripe, if it is yellow, it's perfect. Not that I'm going to remember all that the next time I go to pick out an avocado. ;)

losltp - $4 for tea??? Yikes! That is really high. I have seen a number of places with sodas for $1.99, which is also way too much to pay!

Thanks for the watermelon deals and the watermelon buying hint Faye !
jdouglas13 - we usually do a "split-plate" at most restaurants we eat at but we splurged( an dused birthday gift card ) to get separate plates last night so we could each have nice meal from leftovers tonight .
OT, has anyone noticed how much beverages at restaurants have gone up - almost $4 for iced tea ??

Last nights dinner became the gourmet buffet. Tonight is the shepherds pie.

jdouglas13 - I bought mine at Food Lion for $2.99. You can also find it at HT and ALdi for $2.99 and Lowes Foods for $3.47. The rest of the stores are higher, but you can see their prices in the Just the Basics list I just loaded.

The Food Lion one we bought yesterday is delicious and we have already eaten half of it! My girls LOVE watermelon!

I use the yellow spot technique for picking rips ones. I look for a pronounced yellow spot (where it was on the ground) on the melon instead of the ones with no spot. The no spot ones are apparently not as ripe. I just read that method for picking ripe ones recently and it really seems to work. The article said that thumping the melon does not tell you anything.

JDOUGLAS- Watermelon is on sale at both HT and Aldi this week for $2.99. Not sure about other stores.

Thanks for the welcome home everyone!
RFB, I like the way you think! ;) I can't wait to hear what you do with the squash blossoms and what else you get in your CSA box.
Losltp, you leftovers sound yummy and easy! Perfect combo.
Trichardson, I'm drooling over your garden-fresh squash. Later in the season when you have more than you know what to do with, I'd gladly take some off your hands!
Faye, that watermelon sounds good. Who has it on sale this week? I hate to even ask you that question on a Thursday! :p
