    Faye, Ascherer, and RFB-I love our garden! It's a lot of work (DH does most of the work outside and I do inside preparation), but it saves us a ton of money all year. Plus it tastes soooo much better! !!

    Tonight is Shepard's pie with ground beef (markdown).

    Baseball boys are still in town so grilled burgers (MAJOR markdown at Kroger a couple of weeks ago), foil packet grilled golden wax beans from the garden, baked beans and watermelon.

    nakabi - that is wonderful! I am so impressed. Our tomato plants are doing great but no fruit yet.

    RFB - I also like chicken sausage pan fried with veggies. Yours sounds delicious.

    Tonight I am changing the planned meal. I finally picked up the free Kroger Fiesta beef from the BzzAgent.com coupons they sent and it is in the slow cooker right now. I got the Beef Barbacoa and it is already marinated. It smells great. I'll let you know how it tastes. I'll serve it on rice with sauteed onions and green peppers. Since we still have watermelon.....we'll also have some of that tonight.

    Nakabi- I love the apple chicken sausage! It's Bilinski's Organic and I got it at Earth Fare on sale a few months back and stocked up (Whole Foods carries it too). I usually just cut it up in "coins" and drizzle on a bit of olive oil and roast it on a cookie sheet. I like the one from HT as well (Al Fresco & cooked the same way) but for a bit more, I prefer to go organic and no pork casings.

    And awesome on the free meal... sounds like perfection with the veggies and the venison!!

    RFB-let me know what you think of the apple chicken sausage. I tried it a couple months ago and wasn't very fond of it. Wondering if it was perhaps how I prepared it?

    It is officially summer here! Our garden is growing like crazy! Our meal tonight is completely free and tonight we will have the first harvest of our green beans of the year. Fried okra (we have 2 more bags left from last summer), corn (from last summer), grilled venison loin (free from Mr. Nichols hunting), mashed sweet potatoes (from last summer's garden). LOVE free food and love summertime that helps us save so much money!

    Tonight we're doing some apple chicken sausage that I had in the freezer, pan fried up with some onion and kale, and then I'll add in some roasted sweet potatoes (from HT sale).
