Jdouglas- I love basil, and the purple ruffle would be so pretty in my food photos too! Chives are another great one!!! Besides herbs, I'd love to just have a huge garden of artichokes and leeks :-)

Nakabi and RFB, you need to try purple ruffles basil. Delicious and gorgeous in salad as another green. Chives (regular and garlic) are delicious and you can't kill them. Their flowers are edible too.

Dinner tonight is French bread white pizza topped with sausage, please no salad per DW's request, and cherry pie. Very healthy and as yet still not made! ;)

Nakabi- I can't wait to try all of these this year!!! :-)

RFB-my absoutely favourites are rosemary and cilantro. I grow those, parsley, swet basil, dill, mint, and sage. I've never grown tarragon. Love that it costs so little to grow them, but the flavour they give your food is phenomenal!

Nakabi- I agree so much on the herbs. At any given moment, you'll likely find fresh dill, flat-leaf parsley, thyme, rosemary and cilantro in my home... and I'm really lucky if I can find some good tarragon. What are some of your favorite herbs?

RFB-It should be delicious! I'm glad my children eat everything I cook for them. They aren't fond of cooked carrots or peas (neither is Mr. Nichols and I), but they still eat them since we have a rule in our house that they have to eat what's on their plate :)
The secret to good cooking in my opinion? Fresh herbs and a variety of spices!

Nakabi- love that your kids are so open to foods! Sounds like a fantastic dinner!

My 2 year old requested tilapia so tonight we are having grilled tilapia (bought at Aldi a few weeks ago when it was on sale), with roasted asparagus sprinkled w/fresh parmesan, cremed spinach (using up a bag of spinach bought for $1), Israeli couscos, and fried okra (frozen from last summer's garden.). Fresh fruit (strawberries, blueberries, blackberres, and raspberries) with lowfat whipped creme for dessert.

I've been craving the pork tacos w/sweet potatoes and apple kiwi slaw... so tonight it is :-) Nice deal on the HT pork tenderloin BOGO w/the Q!

PR- we like to freeze them for smoothies, too! I like that when you use frozen fruit, you don't need to water it down w/ice :-) Banana bread sounds good too- we always put chocolate chips in it, at the B&B I worked at... yum!
