Posted February 13, 2014

Heart pancakes for Valentine's Day

Here's the place to share your meal ideas for the evening, post where you bought the ingredients frugally and even share a recipe if you would like. If you need some inspiration for your own dinner tonight, this may give you some helpful ideas.

Wow, I need to come eat at some of your houses tonight!
As cold as it is, we are having red lentil soup (cooked about a month ago and frozen), topped with homemade croutons for everyone but myself, and fresh mozerella. Got inspired by your asiago loaf jdouglas so I'll make some bread myself. Probably pumpernickle since I have all the ingredients for it.

jdouglas- so glad you made it through OK! Can't believe all the outages in the Holly Springs area... and the snow just started coming down once again... :-(

Thanks again for all the help and suggestions yesterday re power outages. Thankfully, we only lost cable for a bit around midnight, but it went right back on. No power outages at all.

Tonight we are having beef barley soup from the freezer, and since I took a loaf of asiago bread out of the freezer yesterday in case we needed it, I think I'll turn it into garlic-parm toast.

Wendy's knockoff chili using ground turkey on markdown, canned tomatoes from our garden last summer and canned beans from recent sale at HT. Served with Jiffy cornbread (my daughter's favorite!) and green salad.

neecy - sounds like a good motto to have!

  • RaleighFoodBlogger Feb 13, 2014

Neecy- I'd go for the lamb stew. I'm just starting to use lamb more in my cooking, and I love it!

  • neecy Feb 13, 2014

Pick from one of the following: Lamb stew (leftover from last night), sandwich bar with all toppings (purchased various meats & cheeses from deli in case power went out), turkey burgers. Our motto when making the menu what we don't cook today will be cooked tomorrow or later in week.

Faye- I love balsamic, but was worried it would be overpowering. It is light and fresh w/a really nice flavor :-) And yum on the stir fry!

Once again I am not sure. I made chicken pot pie stew last night but the boys ate it all so there is none left for pie. Can't make it to the grocery store but have a package of stew meat that was b1g1 at HT. Maybe some kind of stir fry or I could do something Mexican.
