Posted January 2, 2014

Here's the place to share your meal ideas for the evening, post where you bought the ingredients frugally and even share a recipe if you would like. If you need some inspiration for your own dinner tonight, this may give you some helpful ideas.

lynncopeland.... :O Thank you so much for the info! Is it by the regular dressings?

  • jdouglas13 Jan 2, 2014

The soup can was marked, I just grabbed the wrong one. I thought it looked strange when I poured it out. Thankfully I checked the can before I went any further! I'm going to let it sit in the fridge overnight because pot roast always tastes better to me the next day. I had a whole pizza leftover last night, so pizza tonight.

Pooka, your soup sounds really good. I'm hoping to get out tomorrow and stock up on some veg, SD deals, and soup ingredients.

Palermo's Mediterranean pizza and Trader Joe's organic creamy tomato soup. Easy meal on a rainy day. :-)

Gator Girll - great night for beef stew! If I was more on the ball today, I would have made the same thing. That may be tomorrow's meal.

Did you all see the cold weather we have coming in the next week? Down to 13 degrees one night! Definitely some soup and stews on the menu next week.

Beef and vegetable stew with crusty sour dough bread. Looks like a good night for it.

Pooka, Fyi, WalMart sells the dressing.

Copy Cat Pasta e Fa*ioli Soup, salad, bread. Going by O Garden to buy a jar of their dressing so we can really feel like we ate out :)

Barbecued boneless pork chops in the crock pot (YAY!), mac n cheese, and broccoli! Best part, it's already cooking! :)!

Bummer on the roast, jdouglas13. Was the soup incorrectly marked or did you just not realize it was clam chowder? At least you could salvage the meat (the most expensive part).

jdouglas- thanks! And I've got to try the molasses. I make gourmet balsamic glazes using POM juice, but haven't used just POM- yum!!

And so sorry on your pot roast... :-( :-(

RFB, your new recipe sounds wonderful! If you like pomegranate, you have to make some pomegranate molasses from POM juice. Two 16-oz bottles (plain POM) + 1/2 cup sugar. Cook low and slow until reduced by half. Add a good squeeze of lemon juice after it's off the heat. Awesome in salad dressings, sauces, etc.

We almost had a new recipe here tonight too. Pot roast in the slow cooker with a lovely sauce of New England clam chowder. :( I was so mad at myself for that stupid mistake, because I had taken the time to brown the meat and develop a lovely fond, sauté the onions and garlic, and put all my other seasonings on. What was supposed to be a can of Progresso cream of mushroom soup was the last touch. I had to rinse off the meat, toss the rest, and wash the pot and the fond down the drain. There were some choice words flying around my kitchen for a while!
